Every Me / Ben Tanıdık Bir Yabancı
Three Boys at The School of Harran
Once a magnificent city, where prophet Abraham stayed as mentioned in biblical accounts, Harran was at the intersection of the Silk Road, Iraq, Syria, and Inner Anatolia. Some scholar speculates that this school, now in ruins, could perhaps be the oldest university of the world, that hosted philosopher and scientist like “Al-Battanai, who calculated the distance from the Earth to the Moon, Thabit ibn Qurrah, who translated Greek classics and scientific works into Arabic, and wrote on mathematics and astronomy, and the physicist and chemist Jabir ibn Hayyan.” But after the Mongol invasion in 1260, the city has never been the same and changed into a small village with the ruins. Change, and I think of Octavia Butler again,.. river to the sea……And by the way, three boys asking for some spare change said that we will have a place in heaven after we gave them few Liras. ???????? Not all is lost
